Eine Kompassqualle (Chrysaora melanaster) schwimmt am Mittwoch (25.03.2009) in einem mit farbigen Licht ausgeleuchteten Aquarium im Sea Life in Speyer. Das Speyerer Großaquarium präsentiert nach eigenen Angaben erstmals in Deutschland eine Sonderausstellung zum Thema Quallen. Vom Donnerstag (26. März) an sind 40 bis 50 der durchsichtigen und glitschigen Meeresbewohner in 6 verschiedenen Becken zu sehen. 01/11/2009 ; ECHIZEN, Japan - A diver swims near a school of giant jellyfish each nearly 1 meter in diameter in the Sea of Japan off the town of Echizen, Fukui Prefecture, on Oct. 31, 2009. Local fishermen said the jellyfish are smaller than usual this year but are present in huge numbers. Die Feuerqualle (pelagia noctiluca) erscheint in Schwärmen während der Sommermonate an der Mittelmeer-, Ost- und Nordseeküste. Sie ernährt sich von kleinen Krebsen, Larven und Plankton. Der teiltransparente Körper besitzt an der Unterseite die Fress- und Ausscheidungsorgane. Die vier Arme und der Körper sind mit giftigen Nesselzellen besetzt, die bei Berührung auch Menschen verletzen können. Eine Ohrenqualle schwimmt in ihrem Becken im Zoo-Aquarium in Berlin, aufgenommen am 05.02.2010. Die Ohrenqualle ist die am häufigsten in einheimischen Meeren anzutreffende Quallenart, kommt aber auch weltweit vor. Die Aussage, die Giftigkeit der Qualle wäre an ihrer Farbe zu erkennen, ist falsch. Die Färbung der "Ohren" im Quallenschirm wird nur von der Futterfarbe bestimmt.
