Issue date: Wednesday January 07, 2009. An attempt to put the entire Beatles back catalogue on the internet for free has been scuppered. Norwegian national broadcaster NRK had begun posting 212 tracks online in a series of podcasts, with each song preceded by a three-minute talk about its history. But the feat has been quashed as it breaches an agreement with rights holders. See PA story MEDIA Beatles. © picture alliance / dpa/AFP | picture alliance / dpa The Beatles, 50 Jahre, Horst Fascher © BGZ / Kai Gerullis/Kai Gerullis | BGZ / Kai Gerullis US President Barack Obama (R) presents English musician and former member of the band The Beatles Paul McCartney (L) the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song during a concert in the East Room of the White House in Washington, D.C., USA, on 02 June 2010. The Abbey Road studios are to be sold by the EMI group, according to the Financial Times on 16 February 2010, in a notably hard-headed attempt by the company to reduce the debt burden it acquired during a leveraged buy-out three years ago. The sale, which is yet to be confirmed by the group, might be expected to raise more than 10.1million euros, which would make small contribution to the private equity firm Terra Firma's need to raise 137 million euros by June, to service a 3.7bn euro loan from Citigroup.
